Gwinnett County has counting stations that they use to monitor traffic flow at various times throughout the day. One of them happens to be on Suwanee Dam road to the left as you exit our subdivision. While they were collecting data at the end of last year, the most recent data they have is from early 1999. They explained to me that the data from last year must have been corrupted.
The greatest number of vehicles counted passed by on a Thursday near the end of March. In a 24-hour period, 15,866 vehicles went by, with almost an equal number going north (to the left) as went south. The highest volume during any single hour was 1,548 cars.
As you go on to the left toward Highway 20 the traffic volume decreases. While 11,329 cars went past our subdivision on January 13 back in 1998, there were only 9,737 a little farther down (past North Gwinnett High School), with the volume dropping to around 3,000 on the other side of Cumming Highway. Heading toward I-85, counts rise dramatically. That same day in 1998 saw 21,343 cars between Buford Highway and PIB, with as many as 2,000 in a single hour.
