More than most cities, Suwanee relies heavily on input from its citizens to help direct City policy. To that end they have formed a number of committees that give City residents a chance to take an active role in determining Suwanee's future. Because there are so many, we have put together a brief summary of most of them:
The Open Space and Recreational Needs Assessment Steering Committee: A temporary steering committee appointed by the City to direct the City's "Suwanee at Play" Project, it is made up of leadership from the local homeowners associations, Suwanee Sports Academy, school representatives, and other citizens. This group is helping to determine the City's future open space and recreation needs through a series of meetings and public input sessions. Settles Bridge Homeowners Association is represented on this committee.
Planning Commission: A formal 5-member board comprised of Suwanee residents appointed by the City Council, they meet monthly to review zoning issues and make recommendations to the Council. They serve as the primary development advisory board for the City.
Zoning Board of Appeals: A formal 5-member board appointed by the City Council that meets monthly to review variance requests and hear appeals of administrative decisions. They are the primary appeal board for the City. Their decisions are final, but can be appealed to Superior Court. (See Suwanee Input)
