We had Marty Allen from the City of Suwanee come out and take a look at the patching work that was done on the roads in our subdivision. He feels that the patching work was acceptable, but agrees with us that they should have swept-up the loose asphalt dust and gravel. Marty spoke with David Maddox (Suwanee's acting Public Works Director) who said that he would have someone come by and sweep the roads.
Marty asked us to please be patient. The roads were failing in several areas, and waiting any longer would have made repairs much more extensive. The milling equipment needed to repair the roads was available last week, and may not have been available for many more months. It is essential to repair road failures as soon possible - if not, you not only have to resurface new asphalt, but you also have to then repair the base and sub-base areas, which is much more intrusive and costly.
When the final coat of topping is applied, the roads will look and drive like new. Unfortunately it could be this time next year before the final paving work is done.
About the black tar that made it into resident's driveways - there is nothing that the City can do and is part of any paving/patching project.
